Playing on the 4th in Alaska comes down to a choice between three tournaments. All three are a lot of fun, here are the details on each:
Seward Tourney
This is invite only and is generally limited to 12 teams and most come back every year. It's a tradition for many of the teams and the emphasis is on having fun. It's hard for new teams to get in but teams are usually looking for players so if your team doesn't want to play over the holiday, you might be able to get picked up. The Mountain Marathon is also on the 4th so it is a big party down there which also means camping space can be at a premium so try to plan ahead.
Kenai Firecracker
UPDATE: An A/B Bracket has been added
Also on the peninsula, this tourney is usually open to everyone (this year it is limited to C/D teams) but it fills up fast. A lot of the teams camp out at the fields and if you get knocked out a little too quickly there's always time for fishing. Conttact your local association to get into this tourney.
Valdez July Magic
If you want to avoid the congestion and traffic to the peninsula, head east to Valdez and their annual tourney. It's open to B/C/D teams and has room to camp and the town also features a lot of 4th of July festivities. For more information and registration call Tammy Monegan at 831-0371.
